Lucilla Gray and J Moon

Time has flown by so quickly this week, and it's only just occurred to me that I haven't taken any outfit photos. Since my last designer post was such a long time ago, I thought I'd take the chance to show you two really interesting designers that I discovered recently...

Lace and Suede

Although it's only January I've been thinking a lot about my summer wardrobe so I decided I'd get a head start and make this skirt and top. I actually used a commercial pattern for the skirt which I was given as a Christmas present. I never normally use a ready made pattern as I prefer to make my own to fit with my own designs, but I decided I'd give it a go and it was actually really interesting trying out new techniques (such as the slit at the front, and using 3 panels instead of 2/4). You can't see in these photos but the fabric is actually a suede material. It's also just occurred to me that I probably should have ironed my skirt before taking these photos! For the crop top, I used my own pattern this time, layering lace over a lining. I also decided to add flared sleeves as it's something that I've been searching for online recently.

Topshop Skirt

So it's been a stressful week or so what with uni applications and coursework deadlines, but thinking about my incredibly long summer is definitely helping get me through it all! I still have Christmas stuff to show you including this amazing top that my Mum bought me as a present. Although you can't tell in these photos it's slightly cropped which I absolutely love, and it's actually really quite unique in it's style. With some Christmas money in my pocket, I decided to have a quick look around the Boxing Day sales where I found a really lovely dress (post coming soon), and then spotted this skirt in Topshop. It wasn't actually in the sale unfortunately, so I still paid about £30 for it (quite a commitment for me), but I was so in love with the style that I couldn't resist. I'd found it so difficult to find a skirt just like this anywhere else and I convinced myself that as it was so simple and went with so many things, I'd wear it a lot. No regrets so far!

Pre-Exhibition Project

Over the Christmas holidays I've been mainly working on my Pre-Exhibition project and here is my final outcome. I decided to research into architecture, from which I focused in on art deco as my main theme. I'm not so keen on the top here in these photos as it needs a bit of adjustment so that it's not too loose but the skirt of the dress is probably one of my all time favourites! I started off with just plain calico, which I painted, dyed, stitched onto etc. and then paneled together.

Best Fashion Moments of 2014

Happy New Year's Eve! 2014 has been such a weird year for me in that so much has changed but I cannot wait for what's to come in 2015 so bring it on! I thought I'd do a 'Fashion highlights of the year' post since I've done one each year so far. I just picked out some of the fashion moments/highlights that stood out for me in 2014.

Lace and Velvet

I hope you all had a good Christmas! I was lucky enough to receive some new clothes, as well as finding some bargains in the sales which I'm excited to blog about over the next few weeks. One of the presents I received was this really lovely dress. It's pretty much all of my favourite things in one dress - a really unique style (I don't think I've ever seen anything like it before), printed fabric, lace detailing and velvet.

Christmas Eve

Merry Christmas Eve! Just a quick post today to show you my christmassy jumper. I found it on ebay for just £4 and it's originally from Topshop so not a bad price. I'm wearing it with my New Look skirt that I've only just got around to properly adjusting in size (despite the fact I bought it in the sales last January!).

Zara Dress

This is a bit late, but oh well...It's been so difficult recently finding the chance to actually take outfit photos, especially since the days are so short now, but...Christmas soon!. Anyway, so this dress is something I found in the Zara sale way back in the summer (I think it was around £10ish). I had to adjust it slightly due to size issues but nothing too drastic.

Print Project

Again, here is another one of my projects, this time featuring my friend, Megan. As the title may suggest the focus of this brief was to create a print, based on an image from my earlier Surrealism research (my overarching theme up until Christmas). I chose Elsa Schiaparelli's veil from her 1931 circus collection, where the blue wavy lines actually represent the snakes on Medusa's head. I used a mixture of tie dying and printing with paint onto fabric to make this jacket.
